Five Mistakes to Avoid When Booking Your Session
Booking a photography session is super exciting! Especially when you get to show off your horse. But sometimes the excitement can lead to mistakes when you book. Here are some mistakes you should avoid to make your photography experience as smooth and fun as possible!
1 - Not knowing what package you are booking
Photographers offer various packages with different offerings, prices, and times. Be sure to tell them what package you want so that your photographer knows how to prepare and how long your session will take.
2 - Assuming what is included in your package
Every photographer has a general overview of what your package includes on their website. If there is something you want to add or something you don't know is included, always ask. Never assume. Many add-ons cost extra or are not even offered by your photographer. Some good questions to ask are:
Does my package come with XYZ?
How many outfit changes are included?
Are prints included?
3 - Waiting too long to book
Photographers are always in demand. If you have a vision for your session, book it sooner rather than later. Especially if your vision is based on a season. If you wait until November for your fall portraits, they won't have the perfect autumn vibe that they would've had if you booked them in October.
4 - Not disclosing location to your photographer
Knowing the locations of a session is crucial to the planning aspect for photographers. It allows them to space bookings adequately so that they can have time to do multiple sessions in one day if needed. Additionally, many photographers charge travel fees if a location is over a certain distance from their base. Knowing this fee ahead of time allows you to plan payment properly.
5 - Not communicating your vision
A photographer cannot execute your dream shoot if you don't tell them what you're looking for. Send some pictures from Pinterest or Instagram! Tell them what you like and don't like. Give them your vision as clear as water, and even create a vision board if you want to go the extra mile. The more your photographer knows about what you want, the more your pictures will turn out to be what you want.
